A mentor is a qualified individual in a certain industry with experience and knowledge that they are able to pass on to the mentees. A mentor's job is to help the mentee build social capital and find job opportunities.
Once you've signed up, the RISE50 Team will review your profile before we reach out to you with mentees. Once a mentee has expressed interest in working with you, RISE50 will contact you with candidates you may want to mentor. After you've agreed to mentor someone, RISE50 will give you the mentees information so you can send them an email.
This varies on a case by case basis. Sometimes, mentees need skill refinement in certain areas in order to progress in their industry. Other times, mentees need to expand their social circles to connect with individuals in positions that could be beneficial to social mobility. Effective mentorship is very flexible and completely up to the mentor and mentee. With that being said, the end goal should be advancing the mentees position in their respective industry.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the best option to meet is virtually. This can be done in numerous ways. RISE50 suggests Zoom, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, or over the phone.
The monthly hours you indicated when you signed up are a good way to determine how often you meet with your mentee. However, you do not need to stick to the hours you've committed. You can decide to meet for more or less time than you initially committed if there is a mutual agreement with your mentee.
A mentee is an individual that is talented in their respective industry but requires connections and social capital to progress in their industry. A mentee can be seeking a job, skill refinement, or more extensive professional circles.
We will send your preferred mentor an email with your information. Once they've agreed to mentor you, they will reach out to you via email and mentorship will begin. The two of you will begin interacting (most likely virtually), and you will be able to learn the ins and outs of your preferred industry, as well as your best methods of obtaining a job.
We recommend keeping an open mind, because there is always room for more knowledge. The mentor-mentee relationship is something that is essential to cultivate, because it will serve as the basis for your career search. In addition, being flexible and cooperative is very important. The mentor is giving time out of his/her day to help and teach you just like you are taking time out of your day to learn, so it is important to work together and find a schedule that works for the both of you.
Like anything else, results take time. It is up to you to make the most of your mentorship, and stay involved and attentive. Stay on the lookout for any job possibilities, and along with your newfound knowledge you will slowly start seeing results. Once you secure a job, you can make your way up to the top, which is the overall goal.
We recommend keeping your resumé up-to-date and always keeping an eye out for any job opportunities in your preferred industry. It is very helpful to keep a game plan of what to do in order to reach your goal. This helps you stay focused and gives you an idea of what needs to be done by a certain time. The plan can even be made along with your mentor.
